Gunther Beger

Gunther Beger leads the development of innovative UNIDO services in agro-industry, sustainability standards, and climate-related technologies. Prior to working for UNIDO, Mr. Beger served as Executive Director for Germany at the World Bank Group as well as in several leadership positions in the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany from 2013-2021.

From 2006-2013, Mr. Beger worked at the Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection of Germany. Earlier in his career, he served as Head of Division for Agriculture at the German Embassy in Moscow, Russia (1995-2000).

He holds a Master’s degree in Agricultural Economics from Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelm-Universitaet in Bonn, Germany.

Dr. Wolfgang Bender

Dr. Wolfgang Bender studied process engineering at RWTH Aachen and started as a research assistant at BFI in Düsseldorf in 1987. In the following years his focus was on increasing energy efficiency in the basic industry, especially on high-temperature industrial furnaces in the steel industry. In 2015, he started at Hülsenbusch Apparatebau, where he is responsible for all R&D activities and the development of new products.

Dr. Michael Beyer

Michael Beyer joined PTB in 1989. In 1996 he earned the degree Dr.-Ing. at Technical University of Braunschweig, Faculty of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering. Tim Cholibois

Strategy Manager, Enapter

Tim Cholibois is a Strategy Manager at Enapter which designs and manufactures highly efficient hydrogen generators and energy management software. The core technology is our standardized and scalable AEM electrolyser. The flexible device produces hydrogen for energy storage, fuel in vehicles, raw material in industry or fuel for heating. Our goal at Enapter is to make green hydrogen cheaper than fossil fuels. Prior to joining Enapter, he worked as a Senior Strategy Consultant in the energy sector for several years, most recently at Roland Berger. He has also advised national and sub-national governments on climate finance working with GIZ and the UN. Tim holds a MSc in Environmental Change and Management from the University of Oxford.

Dr. Michael Haid

Thorsten Herdan

Previously, he was Director General for Energy at the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. From June 2017 to June 2022, he was Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the State Nuclear Waste Management Financing Asset Management Fund (KENFO).

Fabian Kapp

He represents the 4th generation leader of the more than 100 years old custom machine building company, in which his family holds a majority stake. In the moment she is heading the global engineering for the hydrogen hub within the RWE Group and advises the RWE Hydrogen Business on technical matters related to projects, concepts and designing. The hydrogen hub at RWE Generation shapes and implements RWE’s global hydrogen strategy to position RWE as a driver of the energy transition.

Dr. Ralph Kleinschmidt began his career at thyssenkrupp Uhde in 2001 in research and development. For more than 7 years he has been Head of Technology & Innovation at thyssenkrupp Uhde GmbH, responsible for all technology, intellectual property and research and development activities in Uhde’s fertilizer, chemical, petrochemical and polymer businesses. After studying chemistry at the University of Düsseldorf, he obtained his diploma and subsequently his doctorate at the Max Planck Institute for Coal Research in Mülheim an der Ruhr in the field of polymer chemistry and technology.

Dr. Sebastian König

Sebastian holds a Diploma and a PhD in Electric Energy and High-Voltage Technology. After graduating from Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in 2011, he researched the Vanadium Redox Flow Battery also at KIT. After finishing his PhD thesis regarding system design, modeling and optimization of this type of battery in 2017, he joined HYDAC. HYDAC is a global player in fluid systems, such as hydraulics, cooling and others. He became part of the e-mobility and Hydrogen business development team. Starting from 2020, he was responsible for the business development regarding water electrolysis. In 2021, Sebastian joined Air Liquide Global Engineering & Construction Solutions Germany in Frankfurt. He is now responsible for external sales of water electrolysis plants in Europe.

Dr. Christoph Krinninger

Global Business Development Manager – Energy transition, Clariant, Munich, Germany

Christoph holds a diploma degree in chemistry from the Ludwig-Maximilian-Universität Munich. In 2005, he also completed his Ph.D. thesis. Christoph Krinninger has been working in the chemical industry for over 18 years and was responsible from 2014 to 2021 as a Senior Sales Account Manager for ammonia/methanol and hydrogen customers in Europe. In 2022, he took over the role of  Global Business Development Manager Energy Transition at Clariant Catalysts, focused on green ammonia, sustainable methanol, and ammonia cracking.

Dr. Ryota Kuzuki

Division Head, Int’l Certification & Standards Harmonization, Japan Gas Association

Dr. Ryota Kuzuki started his career in 1989 at Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd. Tokyo, Japan, where he worked as an engineer for gas supply safety technology development, corporate planning, and commercial and industrial sector’s gas marketing. In 2018, he joined the Japan Gas Association as Senior Manager. From 2021, he is in the current position at the Planning Dept of JGA. He holds a PhD degree in engineering.

Dr. Philipp Lettenmeier

Philipp Lettenmeier is responsible for product management for hydrogen electrolyzers at Sustainable Energy Systems, Siemens Energy. He has been working in the field of hydrogen solutions since 2017, for example in the strategy and business development for Siemens.

Philipp studied chemical engineering and completed a PhD in electrochemical energy with a focus on efficiency of electrolysis at University of Stuttgart before working as a research assistant at the German Aerospace Center (DLR).

Dr. Marcel Loewert

Business Development Manager at the Center for Industry and Sustainability (ZIN) and Manager of the cluster Process4Sustainability, Frankfurt/M, Germany

Dr. Loewert studied bioengineering and chemical engineering at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), where he also finished his PhD in the area of decentralized and dynamic renewable fuel synthesis in small-scale plants. He joined INERATEC as head of operations in 2019 and supported many funded and industrial projects surrounding the topic of CO2-based fuels and chemicals. In 2022 he decided to support the chemical industry as a whole with a new role as business development manager and strategic advisor for one of the largest German chemical parks in Frankfurt. Here he is responsible for transformation strategies and project acquisition surrounding sustainability.

Martin Miller

Martin Miller is Head of Technology Management at Rolls-Royce Power Systems, a leading provider of drive and energy solutions. In this role, he is responsible for technology strategy, technology scouting, the technology radar and the acquisition of funding. After studying chemical engineering at the Technical University of Munich, he began his professional career in 2011 at Zeppelin Systems GmbH, an international plant engineering company. He worked there as a laboratory manager in process engineering from 2011 to 2015.

He then moved to Rolls-Royce, where he worked as a fuel expert and deputy Head of Laboratory from 2015 to 2019. From 2019-2022, he was the Head of the Laboratory at Rolls-Royce and was responsible for fuels, oils, coolants, process materials, technical cleanliness and gravimetric emission determination.

Peter Müller-Baum

Peter Müller-Baum studied civil engineering as well as business administration at the RWTH Aachen University, graduating as Engineer and Master of Business and Engineering.

He is with the VDMA since 2005 where he started as a consultant for the Cleaning Systems Association and as Managing Director Technical Affairs for the European association EUnited Cleaning.

In 2012, he became Deputy Managing Director, in 2014 Managing Director of VDMA Engines and Systems that represents the interests of German manufacturers of internal combustion engines for industrial applications and their suppliers.

Since 2013, Peter Müller-Baum is Secretary General of the International Council on Combustion Engines (CIMAC e.V.) where national associations and companies from the combustion engine industry from 27 countries are organized.

In addition, since December 2018 is Peter Müller-Baum also Managing Director of VDMA Power-to-X for Applications, the central platform for information, communication and cooperation for the P2X community, integrating all important stakeholders along the value chain.

Dr. Daniel Neumann

Dr. Daniel Neumann started his career in the chemical process industry in 2012.
In 2015 he started his PhD at RWTH Aachen University on powertrain control concepts and renewable fuels in cooperation with the FEV Group. Since 2019 he works at FEV Consulting. He is responsible for the energy business related activities.

Dr. Klaus Payrhuber

Dr. Klaus Payrhuber started his career at VA Tech, an Austrian Engineering company for large gas turbine combined cycle plants. He worked for GE from 2001 – 2018 in several positions in the field of gas power plants. Current Focus
Our family business with almost 200 years of age, is engaged in the transition from a fossil driven economy to a renewable driven economy. With this transition of the market and hence the customer base in the coming years and decades, the external and internal transformation of the NEUMAN & ESSER GROUP from an equipment supplier to a solution provider across the entire hydrogen value chain is my main task. This starts with consulting and project development for decarbonization projects, continues with solutions to produce green hydrogen via electrolysis, to transport and storage of hydrogen or derivatives with our well proven reciprocating and diaphragm compressor systems as well as utilizing green hydrogen in HRSs’ and fuel-cell applications. After 20 years in the operative business as Managing Partner in various NEUMAN & ESSER Companies my current focus of activity lies in the strategic development of our family business regarding product solutions, product diversification and market segment development as well as adapting the global business structures and procedures.

Thomas Rust

Thomas Rust began his career as a strategic port and logistics consultant at CPL Competence in Ports and Logistics 2011. Between 2016 and 2019, he also worked as branch manager for the Logistikinitiative Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

In 2020, Mr Rust joined Ramboll Deutschland as a Senior Consultant for Transport. Here he is particularly responsible for projects related to sea- and land-based logistics of hydrogen derivatives globally and since 2023 part of the Thought Leadership programme.

Dr. Jens Schmidt

For the past 20 years, Jens Schmidt has worked with Fortune 500 companies as Corporate Technology Consultant/Fellow and Global Technology/Production Director to develop, start up, run, and improve world-scale production assets and advise mega projects on technical innovation and Operational Excellence across multiple businesses and geographies. He also led multiple cross functional global teams and task forces on technology strategies and roadmaps, digitalization and innovation management and specifically advised on decarbonization strategies and technologies for businesses in various industries around the world as expert e.g. on the decarbonization of energy and chemical production assets via green hydrogen and CCU, as well as other sustainable production routes for key raw materials.

Patrick Schmidt

Mr. Patrick Schmidt joined LBST in 2002 and has been working on a wide range of topics in the field of sustainable energies and mobility, focusing on sustainability assessments and the integration of fluctuating renewable power into the energy system. Patrick has been leading and contributing to a number of publications in the field of electricity-derived fuels, including e.g. hydrogen and power-to-liquids for aviation.

Sven Schreiber

Sven Schreiber is the Managing Director of Alfa Laval Mid Europe and responsible for the activities of Alfa Laval in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. He holds an executive Msc from the KIT in Karlsruhe in products and operations manager and since more than 15 years he is active in the field of energy efficiency and renewable energy. Before joining Alfa Laval he has been General Manager at ABB AG and Business Unit Manager at SMA Solar Technology AG. The transformation of the energy landscape must be considered as one of the greatest challenges for the human mankind. P2X does play a vital role not only for the transformation of the transport sector but also for the industrial transformation. Not only has Alfa Laval set itself ambitious targets with regards to sustainability but also Alfa Laval’s products and solutions for heat transfer and separation are an essential element across the value chain of P2X applications.

Petra Schwager

Petra has long-standing experience in managing international technical cooperation programmes and networks for inclusive and sustainable industrial development. She has been working with UNIDO since 2004. She has worked with governments, private sector, NGOs and academia in more than 40 countries.

In her current position at UNIDO, she heads the development of innovative climate and technology partnerships and related technical cooperation programme. She designed and manages UNIDO’s Global Programme for Green Hydrogen in Industry.

She studied economics at the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration and environmental management at the University of London. She designed and manages UNIDO’s Global Programme for Green Hydrogen in Industry.

Frank Sonnenschein

After finishing university with a diploma degree in engineering Frank Sonnenschein started his career in 2006 at Ford Motor Company, where he was part of transmission integration. After working as project lead for transmission development at General Motors in Germany he worked as Application Engineer at SKF sealing solutions and Federal Mogul. In 2014 je joint Garlock as Product Manager for dynamic seals before he moved to Saint Gobain as Business Development Manager for Hydrogen and diaphragms in 2018. Since 2023 he has that role globally.

Daniel Sorger

Project Manager with a focus on H2 transport and transformation at SRP Consulting AG, Cologne, Germany

Daniel Sorger studied industrial engineering. He then started his professional career in 2017 at PEM Motion advising automobile manufacturers in the context of plant construction and electromobility. Within the sector, he moved to SRP Consulting AG in 2020, where he manages strategic projects, particularly in the rail sector. The project presented here can be assigned to its focal points of industrial transformation and low-emission energy sources.

Dr. Ivan Spremo

Dr. Ivan Spremo started his career at Bosch in 2005 as a scientist in the corporate research division. In 2022, after more than a decade in various positions (quality, internal consulting, testing & validation, product engineering) within Bosch powertrain division on different locations in Germany and Czech Republic, he took over the responsibility for electrolysis system engineering and Smart Electrolysis Module development on Bosch location in Stuttgart-Feuerbach. He holds a PhD in theoretical physics.

Pascal Steidel

Consultant for Market Research and Business Development at DB Netz AG, Hannover, Germany

Pascal Steidel have gained a Master of Science at the University of Bonn with a focus on rail infrastructure development in Kenya in 2020. He joined the Market Research and Business Development Team of DB Netz AG in 2020. Within his position, he works on projects to increase traffic on the railways by advising and analyzing new traffic for DB Netz AG as the biggest rail infrastructure manager in Germany. Since the beginning of 2022, he has been investigating the new topic of hydrogen transport by rail.

Prof. Dr. Michael Sterner

Professor for Energy Storage at the Ostbayerische Technische Hochschule Regensburg (OTH Regensburg) and one of the heads of the Research Center for Energy Networks and Energy Storage (FENES).

Sterner was born in Passau. After an apprenticeship in the electrical trade and the Technical Baccalaureate, he was in the development service in Kenya from 1998 to 2000. From 200 to 2005 he studied mechatronics at the OTH Regensburg, before that technical computer science at the HS Augsburg; he did several internships and theses on solar energy and energy economics in Spain and Chile; KAS vocational college for international politics and economics, several scholarships. From 2005 to 2007 Master’s degree in Renewable Energy at the University of Oldenburg and work on biomass in India and at the German Biomass Research Institute in Leipzig. From 2007 to 2011 he was scientific advisor for Prof. Dr. Schmid at the German Advisory Council on Global Change (WBGU). 2009 PhD in electrical engineering at the University of Kassel. From 2007 to 2012, collaboration and management of the research group Energy Economics and Systems Analysis at the Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy and Energy System Technology (IWES) in Kassel. Since 2012 professor for energy storage and renewable energies at the OTH Regensburg. Michael Sterner is married and has three children.

Paul Turner

Paul is a Degree qualified engineer with 42 years in the automotive engineering sector 38 of which has been spent in R&D.

Paul specialised in automotive powertrain and specifically engine controls/emissions development, working at Weslake Developments, Ricardo, SAGEM, Roush/Revolve and now as the Managing Director of CMB.Tech’s UK R&D centre.

Paul was the Engineering Director for Revolve Technologies for the last 21 years and is passionate about developing low carbon and emissions compliant vehicles to combat climate change.

In August 2019 Revolve Technologies was acquired by CMB to continue the development of hydrogen combustion in the marine sector and Paul leads the teams now solving the carbon challenge of the MW scale power requirements of the shipping industry.

Henning Uck

Before joining GP JOULE Henning Uck worked as consultant at umlaut (part of Accenture) and Siemens Advanta. His work covered technology strategy, energy efficiency and business model innovation in sectors ranging from aviation to utilities, with a strong focus on the German energy landscape.
He holds a Master degree in Energy and Environmental Management from University of Flensburg.

Dr. Jörg Walter

Director of Hydrogen Technical, RWE Generation SE, Essen, Germany

Dr.-Ing. Jörg Walter has more than 20 years of experience in the area of mining, renewables, conventional power plants and H2. In the moment he is serving as the Technical Director of the hydrogen hub within the RWE Group and advises the RWE Group on technical matters related to projects, engineering and M&A. The hydrogen hub at RWE Generation shapes and implements RWE’s global hydrogen strategy to position RWE as a driver of the energy transition.

Dr. Philipp Walter

Executive Vice President, New Business Development, Heraeus Precious Metals, Hanau, Germany

Philipp is a chemist by education and received a PhD from the University of Freiburg, Germany. He held several management positions in the chemical industry in new business development, marketing, sales and business management in Norway, USA, Switzerland and Germany. He joint Heraeus in 2016 and is now leading Innovation and New Business Development for Heraeus Precious Metals. Philipp is based at the Heraeus’ Headquarters in Hanau, Germay.

Norbert Weimer

Dipl.-Ing. Norbert Weimer started his career 1982 at Leybold-Heraeus in Hanau, Germany, where he worked as product manager for analytical instruments and later for thin film production plants for electronic application. After a degree at IHK Frankfurt as marketing specialist in 1991 he joined the sealing specialist KLINGER in Idstein, Germany. Here he supported the technical change of customer from asbestos containing material to non-asbestos types. Via Marketing Manager, Export Manager he is responsible today for KLINGER GmbH as the Branch Manager at the site at Idstein.

Manuel Thielmann

Manuel Thielmann is responsible for decentralized energy supply at Polarstern. The focus is on the conceptual development and practical implementation of practical implementation of tenant power projects throughout Germany. They include the integration of the electricity, heat and mobility sectors, as well as various energy and storage technologies.

Prior to joining Polarstern, he worked at the Chair for Electrical Energy Storage Technology of the Technical University of Munich, he researched the integration of battery storage in multi-family houses. As managing director of Green Hydrogen Esslingen GmbH, he is also responsible for the and operation of one of the world's first inner-city electrolyzers for the production of of green hydrogen in the future quarter Neue Weststadt. The quarter was recently awarded the the "Innovation Award Reallabore 2022" of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection.
